Witness I is the first work in an ongoing series exploring visibility, relevance and the human need to leave a mark.

Built through layered accumulations of acrylic paint and Indian ink, the work developed slowly and intuitively over time. Repeated gestures move across the surface like traces, records or points of contact, simultaneously revealing and obscuring what came before.

The series emerged from an interest in what it means to be seen, to feel enough and to know that we matter to somebody. At its core, the work explores acknowledgement, presence and the quiet human need for relevance and connection. Increasingly, the paintings have also become connected to the act of witnessing events unfolding on the world stage and the tension between distance, attention and emotional proximity, asking questions about empathy, shared humanity and our capacity to remain emotionally connected to experiences beyond our immediate lives.

Balancing atmosphere with gesture and repetition, the paintings sit between abstraction and emotional landscape, allowing emotional and psychological states to become embedded within the surface itself.
